Melinda Gates congratulates Bangladesh PM Hasina on re-election
Melinda French Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has conveyed her congratulations to Sheikh Hasina on embarking on a new term as the Premier of Bangladesh.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Hasina, the PMO revealed today that Melinda Gates expressed the foundation's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's development goals in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the government's 8th Five Year Plan.
Highlighting Bangladesh's potential to become a regional and global leader in adopting technology and innovations, Melinda Gates affirmed the foundation's dedication to providing continuous support for the country's financial inclusion goals. She specifically mentioned the visionary Digital Bangladesh initiative, with ongoing partnerships involving a2i and ICT to create an inclusive digital financial ecosystem. The foundation is also collaborating with the Central Bank to contribute to Bangladesh's SMART Vision for 2041.
Melinda Gates further noted the foundation's alignment with Prime Minister Hasina's commitment to ensuring food security for all. The foundation is actively engaged with the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute to modernize rice breeding and maintain productivity in the face of climate change.
Commending the government's achievements, Melinda Gates congratulated Bangladesh on the successful completion of the National Plan of Action on Nutrition and the approval of the National Food and Security Policy 2020-2030.
