14 Myanmar border guard personnel take refuge in Bangladesh following rebel attack
In the aftermath of intensified clashes between the Myanmar military and armed insurgents a group of 14 Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) personnel have sought refuge in Bangladesh.
The individuals crossed the border illegally and are currently housed at the Border Guard Bangladesh camp in Tambru, located in Bandarban, as reported by a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official.
Lt Col Abdullah Al Masruque, the commander of BGB-34 Battalion in Cox's Bazar, said that the situation in Myanmar further deteriorated the previous night, prompting members of the Myanmar security forces to enter Bangladesh territory without authorization. In response, BGB swiftly cordoned off the security force members.
'As an immediate measure, BGB members disarmed the infiltrators, and their weapons and ammunition were confiscated. We are adhering to international norms in handling this situation,' He added.
The BGB source revealed that the group seeking refuge comprises members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police. The incident highlights the complexities and challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in the region, with Bangladesh taking steps in accordance with international protocols to manage the situation effectively.
