UK will help Bangladesh to face the economic challenges
Bangladesh's Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali revealed that the United Kingdom is eager to assist Bangladesh in addressing its economic challenges. The statement came following a meeting with British High Commissioner Sarah Cook at his office in the Secretariat on Thursday.
Highlighting the historical ties between the two nations, Mahmud Ali expressed Britain's willingness to collaborate with Bangladesh, drawing on its centuries-long advantage. He noted that the UK possesses valuable expertise and understanding of Bangladesh's situation, making it a potentially influential partner.
The Finance Minister indicated that he presented a broad outline of potential areas of cooperation during the meeting, and the UK is currently exploring possibilities. "They (Britain) have been working with us, and they understand the situation in Bangladesh," Mahmood Ali stated.
The bilateral discussions centered on how the UK and Bangladesh could collaborate on economic reforms, contributing to Bangladesh's sustainable graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Sarah Cook emphasized the shared interest in fostering a prosperous and resilient Bangladesh.
Following the meeting with the UK High Commissioner, French Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie Masdupuy paid a courtesy call to the Finance Minister. Addressing reporters afterward, Marie highlighted the diverse areas of current cooperation and the strong relations between the French Embassy and the Ministry of Finance.
The Ambassador also delved into discussions about the Finance Minister's economic and financial reform priorities, aligning with the new responsibilities of the cabinet. The diplomatic exchanges underscored the commitment of both the UK and France to support Bangladesh's economic development and reform initiatives.
