Bangladesh and US aligned in support of democracy: Momen

Bangladesh's foreign minister AK Abdul Momen underscored the shared commitment of Bangladesh and the United States to democratic principles.

Expressing a mutual desire for free and fair elections in Bangladesh, Momen emphasized the alliance between the two nations, stating, 'The US stands for democracy, and they are supportive of us. Likewise, we stand in solidarity with them.'
Highlighting the significance of free and fair elections, Momen emphasized that both Bangladesh and the US prioritize the integrity of the electoral process. He urged the US to consider including individuals undermining the polls in their visa policies, reiterating the joint commitment to upholding democratic values.
Reflecting on historical events, Momen recalled the unfortunate alignment of the US with Pakistani forces during the tragic events of 1971, characterized by widespread atrocities. Despite this, he noted the pivotal support extended by the US to Bangladesh during its Victory Day celebrations on December 16. Momen asserted, 'Since our independence, the US has consistently stood by us. This solidarity symbolizes our commitment to each other as nations.'
Emphasizing the Bangladesh Awami League's dedication to preserving democratic ideals, Momen reiterated their belief in fostering a democratic environment free from obstructions. He stressed the essential nature of politics serving the welfare of the people rather than resorting to violence, hindering development, or disrupting educational pursuits.
In essence, Momen highlighted the collective stance of both Bangladesh and the US in advocating for democracy. Their shared commitment underscores a mutual aspiration for fair elections and a firm dedication to the principles of democracy that prioritize the well-being of their respective populations.
