Bangladesh's resolution on Natural Fiber adopted unanimously at UN

The Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly has unanimously endorsed Bangladesh's pivotal resolution titled 'Natural Plant Fibres and Sustainable Development.'

This widespread support signifies the global acknowledgment of Bangladesh's steadfast dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable progress by advocating for the responsible and sustainable utilization of natural fibres such as jute, cotton, and sisal.
Described as a landmark development, the resolution encourages member nations to prioritize the sustainable production, consumption, and utilization of natural plant fibres, as communicated by the Bangladesh Mission in New York.
Moreover, the resolution highlights natural fibres as a commendable substitute for synthetic and plastic-based products, underscoring their potential to contribute significantly to achieving the 2030 agenda.
During the introduction of the resolution on November 21, the representative from the Bangladesh Mission to the United Nations in New York expressed gratitude to all delegations for their active participation, flexibility, and contributions that reinforced the resolution and facilitated a consensus.
Emphasizing the government of Bangladesh's dedication under the proficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the representative highlighted the resolution's significant importance.
Stressing the pivotal role of natural plant fibres in addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity, the Bangladesh representative urged international collaboration to ensure the resolution's full implementation.
Bangladesh initially presented this resolution during the 74th United Nations General Assembly in 2019, and since then, it has been biannually adopted by UN member states.
