Saima Wazed elected as WHO regional director
Saima Wazed, the daughter of Bangladesh's Premier Sheikh Hasina, has been elected as the Regional Director for South-East Asia at the World Health Organization (WHO).
The decision to nominate Saima Wazed was made during a closed meeting held at the seventy-sixth session of the WHO Regional Committee for the South-East Asia Region, according to a press release from the WHO. She will serve in this role for the next five years.
The nomination will be presented to the WHO Executive Board during its 154th session scheduled for January 22 to 27, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Saima Wazed is set to assume her responsibilities as the newly appointed Regional Director on February 1, 2024.
