Chinese envoy criticizes visa restrictions on Bangladesh by unnamed country

Chinese envoy Yao Wen, based in Dhaka, has voiced criticism against a certain country for imposing visa restrictions on Bangladesh, despite their claims of being friends with the South Asian nation.

While not explicitly naming the United States, the ambassador highlighted the irony of a country that frequently discusses human rights, democracy, and fair elections in Bangladesh while simultaneously implementing unilateral visa restrictions and the possibility of economic sanctions on its citizens.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yao emphasized the importance of true friendship, stating that "a friend in need is a friend indeed." He made these comments while speaking to the media during the handover of dengue test kits to Enam Medical College Hospital in Dhaka's Savar on a Wednesday.
China has consistently criticized the United States for what it views as interference in Bangladesh's internal affairs regarding the elections. The Chinese ambassador stressed that China maintains a policy of non-interference in the domestic matters of other countries.
Ambassador Yao reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's economic development and the well-being of its citizens. He emphasized that it is ultimately the people of Bangladesh who will determine who their true friends are.
