Bangladesh and India launch joint military exercise in Meghalaya

Bangladesh and India have initiated a collaborative two-week military exercise in Umroi, Meghalaya, aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation and sharing tactical expertise, according to PTI reports.

This joint exercise, organized alternately by both nations, underscores the robust bilateral defense cooperation initiatives in place. It traces its origins back to its inception in Jorhat, Assam, in 2009 and has since witnessed ten successful editions, with the most recent one held in 2022.
The Bangladeshi contingent, led by Brigadier General Mohammed Mafizul Islam Rashed, Commander of the 52 Bangladesh Infantry Brigade, consists of 170 personnel. The primary unit from the Bangladesh Army participating in the exercise is the 27 Bangladesh Infantry Regiment.
On the Indian side, the contingent predominantly comprises troops from a battalion of the Rajput Regiment, operating under the command of Brigadier S K Anand, who serves as the Commander of a Mountain Brigade. This joint endeavor aims to foster camaraderie and enhance the operational capabilities of the armed forces of both countries.
