Afghan foreign minister to takeover mandate of deputy PM

Afghanistan's interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is set to assume the responsibilities of the deputy prime minister on a temporary basis, as reported by local media.

According to Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban, Muttaqi will step in for Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, who is currently unwell, as detailed by Tolo News.
In this role, Muttaqi will provide guidance and support to acting Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund on matters concerning both domestic and foreign policies, as outlined in the report.
Mujahid was cited by the broadcaster, stating, 'The oversight of domestic and foreign policy matters has been entrusted to the foreign affairs minister, while the head of the political deputy PM's office will handle other duties and activities.'
Kabir has been absent from official gatherings since September, with his office confirming his illness.
Hassan Haqyar, the head of the media directorate for the political deputy premier, expressed hope for Kabir's return to his duties in the near future. Haqyar explained that while Kabir is actively participating in consultations and offering advice to the government, he has refrained from visiting his office as per medical advice, urging him to rest. This absence has led to the decision for Muttaqi to temporarily assume Kabir's responsibilities.
