The 97th Academy Awards was a night to remember, with Sean Baker’s dramedy Anora emerging as the evening’s biggest triumph. The film secured five awards, including the coveted Best Picture and Best Actress for its lead, Mikey Madison.

Hosting the Oscars for the first time Conan O’Brien brought humor and charm to the event, which took place amid the ongoing recovery from the January wildfires in Los Angeles. The show opened with a heartfelt montage honoring the city, culminating in a moving rendition of We Love LA. Following this tribute, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from Wicked delivered a stirring performance that captivated the audience.
Despite disruptions to the awards season, including the cancellation of the traditional nominees’ luncheon and adjustments to nomination deadlines, the ceremony proceeded as planned.
Netflix’s genre-blending musical crime drama Emilia Pérez led the nominations with 13 nods, followed by Wicked and The Brutalist, each earning 10 nominations. By the end of the night, The Brutalist had taken home three awards, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody. Wicked also earned two accolades, winning Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
