Bangladesh and Pakistan resume direct trade after more than 5 decades

For the first time since their separation in 1971, Bangladesh and Pakistan have restarted direct trade, marking a significant shift in their economic relations. According to media reports, the first officially approved shipment recently set sail from Port Qasim.

This trade revival follows an agreement finalized in early February, under which Bangladesh will import 50,000 tonnes of rice from Pakistan through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
As reported by The Express Tribune, a vessel from the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) will soon dock at a Bangladeshi port, a historic moment in maritime trade between the two countries.
This development is expected to enhance economic cooperation and re-establish long-dormant trade routes. The deal is anticipated to strengthen commercial ties and facilitate direct shipping, paving the way for further trade engagements in the future.
