European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Nicola Beer has expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s current investment climate, describing it as stable and conducive to European investments.
'The present situation in Bangladesh appears stable for investment, so we are proceeding with the agreements already made in collaboration with Dhaka. This is why I mentioned the potential for further signings this year,' Beer stated during a press briefing following her meeting with Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday.
When asked about the country’s upcoming elections, Beer emphasized that the decision regarding the timing rests with the Bangladeshi 'citizens and institutions.'
The EIB vice president began her three-day visit to Bangladesh with the goal of assessing ongoing partnerships, addressing key issues, and exploring expanded avenues for investment with the interim government.
Beer noted that the EIB remains closely aligned with the interim government's reform agenda, which aims to pave the way for elections. 'I believe the interim government is advancing well in its reform efforts to prepare for elections soon,' she remarked.
The EIB has pledged its support to the interim government’s initiatives and is collaborating with various ministries to prioritize key investments. Beer highlighted water and sanitation as critical areas for development, along with energy and infrastructure projects.
