Bangladesh receives $2.64 billion remittances in December
Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home a record 2.64 billion US dollar as remittances in December, which was around 32% higher than the corresponding month of the previous year.
The total remittance inflow for December alone was approximately $2 billion, highlighting the robust contributions of overseas wage earners.
For the first half of the ongoing fiscal year (July to December FY25), remittance inflows reached $13.78 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth rate of 27.56%. In comparison, the corresponding figure for the previous year was $10.80 billion.
A senior official from the central bank attributed this growth to government initiatives aimed at streamlining legal channels for remittance transfers. These measures have encouraged non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to remit funds through official channels, boosting the overall inflow.
