Bangladesh's GDP to outpace UAE, Swedish economies by 2039

Bangladesh is projected to become the world’s 21st largest economy by 2039, driven by economic diversification into sectors such as pharmaceuticals and electronics alongside its established textiles industry.

This growth is underpinned by significant infrastructure investments and a growing demographic dividend, according to the London-based Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).
In its 16th annual World Economic Outlook report, the CEBR predicts that Bangladesh’s economy will outpace high-income nations like Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sweden, and Belgium over the next 15 years.
The projections, based on gross domestic product (GDP) in current US dollars, estimate that Bangladesh will achieve a GDP size of $1.60 trillion by 2039. The findings are detailed in the CEBR’s World Economic League Table 2025.
Currently ranked as the 37th largest economy globally with a GDP of $434 billion, Bangladesh is expected to climb 16 positions in the next two decades to secure its place as the 21st largest economy worldwide.
