Russia's top clothing brand eyes Bangladesh for production shift

Russia's largest clothing manufacturer Gloria Jeans is planning to shift part of its production overseas due to labor shortages within the country.

The company, known for producing clothing and footwear, is evaluating Bangladesh as a potential destination for its new production facilities.
According to reports from Ukrainska Pravda, referencing the Russian outlet Kommersant, this shift is likely to impact factories located in Russia’s Rostov region. One such factory in Salsk has already ceased operations, with employees offered relocation opportunities to other facilities within Russia.
Currently, Gloria Jeans operates 18 factories across Russia. In addition to Bangladesh, the company is exploring Vietnam and Uzbekistan as potential production hubs.
Uzbekistan's strong domestic cotton industry ensures a steady raw material supply, while all three countries—Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan—offer robust industrial infrastructure and cost-efficient production environments.
Historically, Russian apparel manufacturers have relied heavily on China for production. However, rising labor costs in China are driving companies like Gloria Jeans to seek more cost-effective alternatives, with Bangladesh and Uzbekistan emerging as attractive options.
