EU sees opportunities in Bangladesh's rapid renewable energy expansion

Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh Michael Miller has said there are many opportunities to work more on renewables in a country like Bangladesh which has a low amount of renewable capacity.

He highlighted that Bangladesh’s need for sustainable energy aligns well with the EU’s expertise and available financing for renewable energy projects.
'We see potential to collaborate with Bangladesh on improving air quality and addressing air pollution. However, renewable energy stands out as a key area for major investments,' Ambassador Miller shared in a recent interview.
From 2021 to 2027, the EU plans to mobilize up to €300 billion in investments for sustainable, high-quality projects that support partner countries’ needs and bring lasting benefits to local communities.
Ambassador Miller noted that last year’s Global Gateway Forum successfully mobilized €400 million in financing, aimed at developing power plants, stabilizing grid infrastructure, and building critical interconnections.
'Climate change is an area where our partnership can be especially impactful. We’re actively financing environmental upgrades within Bangladesh’s textile industry' Miller added, underscoring the EU’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in Bangladesh.
