Bangladesh Seeks $7b but China interested $5b

Bangladesh's Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to set out for China on a bilateral official visit on Monday one year ahead of marking the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Beijing.

During her visit to Beijing, Prime Minister Hasina will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to elevate the 'partnership' between the two nations to new heights. The discussions will focus on deepening political relations and increasing China's involvement in Bangladesh's economic activities.
Diplomatic sources indicate that trade and economic issues will be prioritized during this visit. One key topic will be China's proposed loan in local currency equivalent to approximately USD 5 billion, while Bangladesh is seeking USD 7 billion.
Several significant issues are expected to be addressed during the high-level meetings between the leaders of the two countries.
Although this is a bilateral visit, contemporary global and regional events may influence discussions on geopolitics and geo-economics.
On the third day of the visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During this meeting, around 20 documents, including several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), are expected to be signed.
Diplomatic sources in Dhaka have indicated that no formal agreements will be signed during this visit, but MoUs and similar documents will be. By last Friday, the two countries had finalized at least 15 MoUs for signing.
