Sheikh Hasina seeks larger investment from three countries
Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday sought larger investments from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan.
The discussions took place at the Bayerischer Hof conference venue in Munich, Germany, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2024. After the meetings, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, provided a briefing to reporters.
In her meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, Sheikh Hasina acknowledged the Netherlands as a significant development partner and urged increased investment in Bangladesh. She highlighted the Netherlands' crucial role in the implementation of Delta Plan 2100 and dredging initiatives in Bangladesh, emphasizing their substantial contribution to the country's development.
During talks with the United Kingdom's former Prime Minister and current Secretary of the State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, Sheikh Hasina discussed bilateral relations. She encouraged the UK to make larger investments in Bangladesh and recognized the UK as a major development partner contributing significantly to Bangladesh's progress. Additionally, Sheikh Hasina extended an invitation to Lord Cameron to visit Bangladesh.
In the meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, Sheikh Hasina sought investments across various sectors in Bangladesh. The President proposed the formation of a joint working group to enhance existing bilateral relations.
Stressing the importance of establishing the joint working group before the upcoming COP29 scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan in November, Sheikh Hasina and the President of Azerbaijan also discussed global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine War and the conflict in Gaza, emphasizing the need for peace and resolution.
