India and US seek to bolster trade ties

India and the United States have affirmed their commitment to strengthening trade ties and enhancing collaboration, particularly in critical minerals, according to statements made by United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai on Saturday.

The annual trade policy talks between India's trade minister, Piyush Goyal, and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai took place in New Delhi on January 12. Katherine Tai is currently on a three-day visit to India.
Both nations are actively working to enhance bilateral trade relations, aiming to overcome diplomatic tensions that arose when Washington alleged, late last year, that an Indian official was connected to a thwarted plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader on U.S. soil. India responded by stating that such actions were inconsistent with government policy and initiated its own investigation into the allegations.
Despite these challenges, both Washington and New Delhi expressed their intent to exchange information and deepen their partnership, especially in critical mineral resources. An Indian official, who preferred to remain unnamed as the discussions are not public, shared this perspective, highlighting the mutual commitment to foster cooperation in this crucial area.
