More than 20 countries have applied to join BRICS

Over 20 nations have formally submitted applications to become members of BRICS, the influential consortium of emerging economies encompassing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

In a televised address on Sunday night, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted the significance of this expansion, stating, 'An expanded BRICS will represent a diverse group of nations with different political systems that share a common desire to foster a more equitable global order.'
South Africa is poised to host the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, which will be graced by the presence of key leaders including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Russian President Vladimir Putin's delegation will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Ramaphosa also disclosed that over 30 heads of state and government from various African nations are expected to participate in this landmark summit.
BRICS, as it stands, constitutes a substantial quarter of the global economy and commands a fifth of the world's trade volume.
Additionally, it boasts a collective population exceeding 40% of the world's total. This surge in interest from other nations reflects the growing recognition of BRICS as a pivotal player in the international economic and political arena.
