EU announces new humanitarian aid package for Bangladesh, others

The European Commission has announced new funding to support humanitarian projects in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The latest aid package amounts to €21.5 million for the Asia-Pacific region, bringing the EU’s total humanitarian support for 2024 to nearly €95 million.
Additionally, an EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flight, carrying essential supplies for those affected by Typhoon Yagi which recently caused widespread damage in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to arrive in Laos in the coming days.
These developments coincide with the visit of Janez Lenarčič, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, to the Philippines and Indonesia. During his trip, Lenarčič is strengthening collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other regional partners on disaster preparedness and response.
While in the Philippines, Lenarčič will also participate in the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, where he plans to emphasize the EU’s commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and response efforts both within the EU and globally.
